Messi plans to play on for Argentina after World Cup win

Lionel Messi is not ready to walk away from Argentina yet, despite ending his pursuit of a World Cup winner's medal.

The soccer great secured the one major trophy that has eluded him in his storied career as Argentina beat France 4-2 on penalties in the final at Lusail Stadium on Sunday.

The match finished 3-3 through extra time with Messi scoring twice and converting his penalty in the shootout.

At 35, this is likely his last appearance in soccer's biggest tournament, but he confirmed after the match that he intends to play on.

“Obviously, I wanted to complete my career with this, (I) can't ask for more,” Messi said.

"Finishing my career this way is impressive. After this, what else? I have a Copa América, a World Cup. Almost at the very end.

"I love soccer, what I do. I enjoy being part of the national team, the group. I want to enjoy a couple of more matches being a world champion.”

Increasing X-ray machines for baggage checks has helped ease congestion at Delhi airport T3: Scindia

Civil aviation minister Jyotiraditya Scindia on Friday said increasing the number of X-ray machines for baggage checks to 18 is a "major reason" for easing congestion at Terminal 3 of the Delhi airport.

In recent weeks, the Indira Gandhi International Airport (IGIA) in the national capital has been grappling with congestion, resulting in long waiting hours for passengers and many of them have been complaining about the situation on social media.

Against this backdrop, all agencies concerned are taking action, including increasing the number of security personnel at the gates, to reduce the congestion amid rising domestic air passenger traffic.

Delhi girl acid attack: Police issues notice to Flipkart over sale of acid

A day after the shocking incident of an acid attack on a 17-year-old schoolgirl, the Delhi Police on Thursday issued notice to Flipkart, from where the accused had bought the acid.

The sale of acid is banned in the market but the accused, identified as Sachin Arora, had bought it online from the e-commerce platform.

The 17-year-old was attacked with acid on Wednesday morning near Dwarka Mor while she was on her way to school. Three persons have been held in this connection.

Arora, along with two others - Harshit Aggarwal a.k.a. Honey, 19 and Virender Singh a.k.a. Sonu, 22 - had planned and hatched the conspiracy a few days ago to throw acid on the girl after their friendship ended in September this year, an official said.

All the three accused are residents of the same locality where the girl resides.

"At the time of the incident, Harshit was driving the bike. Virender aided the accused persons by being part of the criminal conspiracy," a police official said.

In the morning before the incident, Singh took Arora's scooty and mobile phone to another location so as to create an alibi and mislead the investigation.

This is Messi's last World Cup and he is playing like that, says Wayne Rooney

As Lionel Messi confirmed he will be playing his last FIFA World Cup game when Argentina take on either France or Morocco in Sunday's final in Doha, former England star Wayne Rooney said the Argentine striker is indeed playing the way as if it's his last dance in a global showpiece event.

Messi led Argentina to a 3-0 win over Croatia in their FIFA World Cup 2022 semifinal on Tuesday night and will earn his 172nd and last cap in the World Cups during the weekend when he tries to take the side to its first global title since 1986 triumph.

"Messi announced that this is probably his last World Cup, and he is playing like that. He is playing like this, is it? It is now or never," said Rooney on the VISA Match Centre show on Sports18.

Earlier, Messi had confirmed the 2022 FIFA World Cup final to be his swansong in the mega event. "I feel very happy, to be able to achieve this, to finish my World Cup journey by playing my last game in a final."

I have experienced racism in my life, says UK PM Sunak

British Prime Minister Rishi Sunak has revealed that he experienced racism growing up in the UK but the country has made incredible progress since then in confronting the issue.

The British Indian leader was speaking to reporters on Thursday night in the wake of a racism row at Buckingham Palace, which saw the resignation of Prince William's godmother after it emerged that the senior palace aide had repeatedly questioned a black British charity worker about where she was “really from”.

When asked about the controversy, Sunak said it would not be right for him to comment on palace matters and pointed out that action had been taken.

“It would not be right for me to comment on matters to do with the royal palace, although as we have seen they've acknowledged what's happened and made an apology for it,” he said.

Sunak, who was born in the UK to parents of Indian heritage, was pressed further on how he felt when he heard about the incident involving Ngozi Fulani, founder of London-based charity Sistah Space, and Lady Susan Hussey – a close confidante of the late Queen Elizabeth II.

He said: “As I have talked about in the past, I have experienced racism in my life. But what I am pleased to say is some of the things that I experienced when I was a kid and a young person, I don't think would happen today because our country has made incredible progress in tackling racism.
